Abstract:
Groundwater is a vital resource, especially in rural areas where it serves as the primary source for domestic and agricultural use. However, increasing pollution from human activities necessitates regular quality assessments to prevent waterborne diseases. This study evaluated the physicochemical properties of groundwater from six deep wells at Central Luzon State University (CLSU) to assess its suitability for drinking and recreational use. Parameters analyzed included temperature, pH, total suspended solids (TSS), total dissolved solids (TDS), sulfate (SO₄²⁻), nitrate (NO₃⁻), dissolved oxygen (DO), hardness, and toxic heavy metals. The results were compared with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. While most parameters fell within acceptable limits, lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) concentrations exceeded WHO thresholds, posing potential health risks and rendering the water unsuitable for consumption.
